Listening and disobedience

Trying times at our house lately. So round two goes to the Toddlers.....UGH!

It seems that poor listening skills have led to lots of disobedience. My two almost 3 year old is showing HUGE signs of what some call "selective hearing." The 18Th month old is just seeming to follow suit.

So what's a mommy and daddy to do. WIN I say. I, we, must WIN this battle in order for there to be sanity in this house not to mention well behaved children.

I feel as if I am constantly raising my voice, clapping my hands, redirecting, time outs, yes...spankings. I believe in discipline for my children. Not one that does harm but it must be effective.

Maybe this is just a part of the cycle. I survived the midnight wakings and the crying it out stage right. So I suppose we will survive this cycle too.
I am reminded of a song I just heard on a blog. It wont be like this for long by Darius Rucker.

Maybe I should listen to that more often. But for the time being I would love to hear the craziness in your life and how you are dealing with it or have dealt with it. Let me hear from ya!

Oh, friend...we need a mom's night out! As you know, I have been in the same boat here too. I have tried lately to just step back and take some deep breaths...sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. I am trying my best to stay calm and to laugh instead of stress out. Hang in there...keep us updated on how you're doing!

Emma has just started having tantrums. It's a challenge, that's for sure. For Ethan, who is 6, we have instituted room time--when he just won't listen anymore, he has to spend an hour by himself in his room. It works, because then Zach, 4, gets time by himself too. Sometimes separation is just the answer. And when they're teenagers, we'll miss this!

Oh, ML, though I don't have any craziness to share yet... I will in the months to come, I'm sure. Our struggle right now is that Braydon LOVES to play on the stairs and when we put the gate up, he does all he can to take the thing down... which he can:)

This cycle WILL pass for you and then you'll be on to the next.

Lastly, I'm so happy your doctor appointment brought you some peace:)
